The seminar featured two keynote speakers from the PCA, Garth Schofield and Martin Doe, and was attended by the Chief Justice and Judges of the Court of Appeal, the District Judge, Prosecutors, lawyers and public defenders.
In his remarks, the Vice Prime Minister affirmed that Timor-Leste’s accession as the PCA 123th member in 2024 means the country’s commitment to the international legal order and the peaceful resolution of disputes. He also stressed that this step complements Timor-Leste’s accession to the WTO and its efforts for integration into ASEAN.
Timor-Leste’s participation in the PCA strengthens international confidence in the country and provides dispute resolution mechanisms for states, international organizations, and the private sector through arbitration, mediation, and verification.
The seminar aimed to enhance the understanding of government institutions, the judiciary, and the business sector on international dispute resolution and the role of the PCA in supporting legal harmonization.
The Vice Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to the PCA, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and the Prime Minister’s Office for organizing this important event.
