The Office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (CMEA), through the General Coordinator, Jorge Rui de Carvalho Martins, in partnership with the General Directorate of Metrology of Indonesia, launched a week-long program to strengthen Legal Metrology in Timor-Leste. The initiative, taking place from 20–27 November at the Indonesian Cultural Center, includes technical training, monitoring of recalibration services, and support for the drafting of metrology regulations.
In his opening remarks, the General Coordinator expressed the Government’s deep appreciation to the Government of Indonesia for its ongoing cooperation. He highlighted that this collaboration not only builds national technical capacity but also strengthens bilateral relations between the two countries.
This program supports Timor-Leste’s efforts to reduce technical barriers to trade, enhance product quality, and prepare local industries for greater participation in the ASEAN market following the country’s full accession. The General Coordinator emphasized that strong metrology systems are vital for competitiveness, investment attraction, and the development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. He also acknowledged the important roles of IQTL and AIFAESA in ensuring national compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing cooperation with Indonesia and extended its gratitude to the Indonesian Ambassador for continuous support.
