Vice-Prime Minister (V-PM), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (MCEA) and Minister of Tourism and Environment (MTE), Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, received a courtesy visit from a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Cambodia, led by Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Dr. Chea Vandeth, to discuss bilateral cooperation among Timor-Leste and Cambodia, Monday this week at the office, Farol, Dili.
During the delegation meeting, both parties discussed strategic opportunities to fortify amicable relations and bilateral collaboration between Timor-Leste and Cambodia. particularly in the areas of economy, transport, air connectivity, tourism, trade, and investment. Meanwhile, the Cambodian delegation also shared their success experience regarding the development of strategic sectors that have contributed to their economic growth.
According to Vice-PM Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, The Cambodian delegation’s visit epitomizes a seminal stride in bolstering the extant robust bilateral synergy between the two nations.
“The Cambodian Minister of Communications visited Timor-Leste to see and strengthen cooperation, particularly in the digital area. \u2018\u2019I congratulate the Ministry of Transport and Communications for taking a step forward, especially in the digital sector. This shows that Timor-Leste is moving forward in digital transformation, as seen in practical examples like the digitalization system for driver licenses and vehicle registration,” said Vice-Prime Minister.
“Timor-Leste and Cambodia have a robust bilateral relationship.” The former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, is a good friend of President Dr. Jos\u00e9 Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusm\u00e3o. That’s why Cambodia continues to show its commitment to supporting Timor-Leste, particularly in technical areas and human resource capacity,” he declared.
The Vice-Prime Minister added that, bilateral cooperation will also expand to other important sectors that are pillars of national development, including education.
