This event, held at the Dili Convention Centre (DCC), specifically addressed the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures and the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement, in collaboration with the WTO Secretariat in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop aimed to convene representatives from government institutions and the private sector to strengthen national technical capacity regarding WTO commitments. It focused on the implementation of SPS and TBT measures, which constitute essential prerequisites for Timor-Leste\u2019s accession to the World Trade Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSPS and TBT measures are not merely technical trade obligations; they serve as strategic instruments for Timor-Leste&#8217;s economic transformation. Through robust standards, quality assurance, and the development of an Integrated Laboratory, Timor-Leste reinforces public health protection, enhances export competitiveness, and fosters international confidence in our products as we integrate into the global trading system,\u201d stated the Director-General of MCAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technical sessions featured presentations and discussions led by experts from the WTO Secretariat in Geneva, namely Lauro Locks, Counselor in the Trade and Environment Division, and Rolando Alcala, from the SPS Section of the Agriculture and Commodities Division.
